Stream 06: Coefficients per surface type, drawing/graphic standards, urban-climate map conventions

Research date: 2026-09-30. Author: research agent (stream 06). Status: final for this session (version 2; supersedes the interim version written earlier the same day).

Evidence marks used in every table

  • V = verified by me this session in a primary source (law portal, city/agency page or brochure, pages of the standard itself in an official preview or official annex, publisher catalogue page).
  • S = secondary source (agency, municipal, manufacturer, association or lecture document that reproduces the table; search-result snippet of a primary page whose body could not be read).
  • R = recalled from training knowledge, not verified this session. A lead, not a value to ship.

Method caveats

  • DIN/VDI/DWA/ISO full texts are paywalled, so coefficient values from standards are mostly S (reproductions). Row labels are shortened/paraphrased; numbers are as read.
  • The session's shared web-search budget ran out midway; later items rely on direct fetches of known URLs. Several pages could only be read through the fetch tool's text extraction (marked where it matters).
  • Nothing was purchased, no accounts were created. Temporary render files of one PDF page (for colour sampling) lie in the session scratchpad.

A. Coefficients attached to surface / habitat types#

A1. Biotopflächenfaktor (BFF, biotope area factor) Berlin#

Definition (V): BFF = naturhaushaltswirksame Fläche / Grundstücksfläche (ecologically effective area ÷ plot area). Each sub-area is multiplied by its Anrechnungsfaktor (weighting factor, 0–1); roof, façade and infiltration credits are added on top of the ground areas. Set as a binding target in district BFF-Landschaftspläne.

A3. Versiegelung (sealing): definitions and classes#

Umweltbundesamt (UBA): V (page updated 26.03.2026, read through the fetch tool): https://www.umweltbundesamt.de/daten/flaeche-boden-land-oekosysteme/boden/bodenversiegelung

  • Bodenversiegelung: the soil is covered air- and water-tight so that rainwater cannot infiltrate or only with difficulty.
  • Full sealing: bebaut, betoniert, asphaltiert, gepflastert oder anderweitig befestigt; partial sealing: loosely laid slabs, paving, wassergebundene Decken (uncertainty acknowledged). There is no statutory three-class definition.
  • About 45 % of the Siedlungs- und Verkehrsfläche (52 266 km² = 14,6 % of Germany) is sealed = 6,57 % of the territory; estimated by the LABO model (settlement density) and the UGRdL method (sealing shares per land-use type).

Berlin Umweltatlas 01.02 Versiegelung (Ausgabe 2017), Tab. 1 Belagsklassen: V (read earlier in the session; classes 1, 2, 4 also confirmed by a search snippet of the 2021 edition): https://www.berlin.de/umweltatlas/_assets/boden/versiegelung/de-texte/kd102.pdf . Berlin counts permeable pavings as "versiegelt" and separates bebaut versiegelt (buildings) from unbebaut versiegelt (pavements), the latter in four classes:

Belagsklasse Impact on Naturhaushalt Belagsarten
1 extrem Asphalt, Beton, Pflaster mit Fugenverguss oder Betonunterbau, Kunststoffbeläge
2 hoch Kunststein- und Plattenbeläge (Kantenlänge > 8 cm), Betonverbundpflaster, Klinker, Mittel- und Großpflaster
3 mittel Klein- und Mosaikpflaster (Kantenlänge < 8 cm)
4 gering Rasengittersteine, wassergebundene Decke (z. B. Schlacke, Kies-, Tennenfläche), Schotterrasen

(Long-term mean water balance, not design storms; the parameters are calibration values.)

bdla, "Der qualifizierte Freiflächengestaltungsplan" (Stand Juli 2022): V: the plan should prove the Versiegelungsgrad / Begrünungsanteil, as a rule in five classes: (1) Vegetationsflächen mit Erdanschluss, (2) begrünte Unterbauung, (3) teilversiegelte versickerungsfähige Flächen (e.g. Rasenpflaster, wassergebundene Wegedecke, Schotterrasen), (4) vollversiegelte undurchlässige Flächen (e.g. Asphalt, Ortbeton, fugenloses Verbundpflaster), (5) überbaute Flächen (buildings without or with extensive/intensive green roof). This is the most practical class scheme for a landscape-plan catalog. https://www.bdla.de/de/dokumente/bundesverband/freiraumplanung-und-staedtebau/1406-bdla-broschuere-fgp-stand-juli-2022/file

A4. Albedo and emissivity per urban surface#

Citable, machine-readable default set: PALM model system 6.0 lookup tables (Leibniz Universität Hannover; land-surface model described in Gehrke et al. 2021, Geosci. Model Dev. 14, 5307), V (tables read through the fetch tool; spot-check before release): https://palm.muk.uni-hannover.de/trac/wiki/doc/app/land_surface_parameters ; https://palm.muk.uni-hannover.de/trac/wiki/doc/app/radiation_parameters . Broadband albedo at solar zenith angle 60° (after Briegleb et al. 1986; Briegleb 1992).

Surface (PALM type) Broadband albedo Emissivity ε
Water (lake, river, pond, fountain) 0,06 0,99
Bare soil 0,08 0,94
Short grass (albedo type "short grassland/meadow/shrubland") 0,25 0,95
Tall grass (albedo type "medium/tall grassland/woodland") 0,18 0,97
Crops, mixed farming 0,19 0,95
Deciduous shrubs / evergreen shrubs 0,25 / 0,23 0,97
Deciduous broadleaf trees (mixed deciduous forest) 0,17 0,97
Evergreen needleleaf trees 0,14 0,97
Mixed forest / woodland 0,18 0,97
Asphalt (asphalt concrete) 0,17 0,94
Asphalt/concrete mix 0,17 0,97
Concrete (Portland concrete) 0,30 0,98
Sett (Kleinpflaster) 0,17 0,93
Paving stones / cobblestone 0,17 0,97
Gravel / fine gravel / pebblestone 0,17 0,98 / 0,93 / 0,97
Wood / woodchips 0,17 0,94 / 0,97
Tartan / artificial turf / clay (sports) 0,17 0,97 / 0,94 / 0,98
Building roof: standard / (very) bright / reflective 0,07 / 0,30 / 0,60 n/a

All rows V. Caveat: in PALM every pavement type except concrete carries the same placeholder albedo 0,17, a model default, not a material measurement. For material differentiation use measured ranges:

Material Albedo range Emissivity Mark
Asphalt 0,05–0,20 0,95 R (Oke 1987, Boundary Layer Climates, Table 8.4; taken over in Oke, Mills, Christen & Voogt 2017, Urban Climates, Cambridge UP). The asphalt range was confirmed by a search snippet; the tables themselves were not seen
Concrete 0,10–0,35 0,71–0,90 R
Brick 0,20–0,40 0,90–0,92 R
Stone 0,20–0,35 0,85–0,95 R
Tar-and-gravel roof 0,08–0,18 0,92 R
Grass (long → short) 0,16–0,26 0,90–0,95 R
Deciduous forest (in leaf) / coniferous forest 0,15–0,20 / 0,05–0,15 0,97–0,99 R
Water (small zenith angle) 0,03–0,10 0,92–0,97 R
Soil, dark wet → light dry 0,05–0,40 0,90–0,98 R
Extensive green roof ≈ 0,15–0,25 ≈ 0,95 R (no single authoritative source)

Recommendation: ship albedo and emissivity from PALM (one citable, consistent source) and keep albedo_range_lit as an unverified column until the Oke tables are checked.

Scope General rules plus graphical symbols and simplified representations ("conventions") for landscape drawings; Annex A lists applicable conventions from other ISO standards V preview p. 1
General rules Detail depends on required accuracy; production drawings dimensioned for setting-out; existing and proposed levels as spot levels and/or contours; conventions may be completed by text, abbreviations, additions; non-standardised conventions must be explained on the drawing V preview p. 1

Convention table (clause 3), described in words, all rows V (preview pp. 2–5). "Thin/thick" = the two line widths of the chosen line group. The standard is black-and-white; it defines no colours.

Ref. Element Convention as drawn
3.1 Subdivision of plant beds / grass thin dashed line; areas may be hatched or shaded
3.2 Tangent point / point of transition two small open circles joined by a short line across the curve
3.3 Existing contour thin continuous or thin dashed line
3.4 Proposed contour thick continuous line; level value may be written on the line (also for 3.3)
3.5 No-cut / no-fill line freehand thin chain line
3.6 Outline of areas to be protected thick chain line; area may be hatched or shaded. Examples: square frame around the whole crown = tree to be protected; small frame around the stem = trunk to be protected
3.7 Outline of existing shrub and woodland areas thin continuous irregular (looped, cloud-like) line
3.8 Outline of proposed shrub and woodland areas thick continuous irregular line
3.9 General area to be removed hatching of thin dashed diagonal lines; stated to be an alternative to ISO 7518
3.10 Embankment (Böschung) thin hachures down the slope, alternating long and short, shown only if contours are not used; top and bottom edges may be thin continuous lines
3.11 Direction of flow (land drains etc.) thin continuous line with arrowhead in the direction of fall (cf. ISO 4067-6)
3.12 Fence line crossed by pairs of short ticks; thick/thin continuous lines
3.13 Stile two short thick parallel lines
3.14 Retaining wall thick line (outer face) with short thin ticks on the retained side
3.15 Sheet pile thick stepped (offset) line
3.16 Grass light random stipple; may be replaced by text ("turfed", "grass-seeded")
3.17 Plant bed dense regular dot screen; for hard-landscape drawings only
3.18 Proposed shrub/plant solid dot at the plant position; spread may be shown; plants of one species linked by a thin line and annotated (number + name) or numbered against a schedule; single dots not needed for evenly distributed mass planting such as ground cover
3.19 Climber solid dot with a small cross below, placed at the supporting structure; species may be linked
3.20 Existing hedge to be retained thin irregular line (angular zigzag band)
3.21 Proposed hedge thick irregular (wavy) line, (a) conventional double wavy line, (b) alternative with plant dots between the lines
3.22 Existing tree crown circle in thin line and trunk circle in thick line, both approximately to scale; trunk = diameter 1 m above ground
3.23 Proposed tree crown circle in thick line with a small cross in thin line at the centre; circle is not to scale and represents neither the crown at planting nor at maturity
3.24 Tree pit square with thick border and thin dashed diagonals
3.25 Small unit paving close parallel thin lines; "pattern is representational only"
3.26 Large unit paving thin square grid; representational only
3.27 Cobbles small irregular rounded outlines in thin line; representational only
3.28 Hose point thick "#"-like sign
3.29 Sign extra-thick bar (example: fixed to two poles)
3.30–3.33 Luminaire; + wall bracket; pole + arm; bollard/low-level thick circle with thin diagonal cross; variants with bracket, pole and arm, letter B

Clause 4 (V): new planting should be scheduled, name, classification/designation, root system, planting location, quantity; optionally height/girth, spread, form, cost; schedules may be split into trees, shrubs, other plants.

What clause 3 does not contain: no dedicated symbol for a single tree to be felled (removal = hatch 3.9 or ISO 7518), none for water surfaces or perennials as such, no colours. The portable semantic rule is: existing = thin; proposed = thick; protected = thick chain-line frame; removed = dashed diagonal hatch.

ISO 11091 (3.9) refers to it for removal. Content R: existing parts to be retained = thin continuous outline; parts to be demolished = outline marked with crosses (×); new parts = thick outline or hatch. The ×-on-outline motif is the one used by the Bavarian BauVorlV for "zu beseitigen" (V, below).

Bavaria: Bauvorlagenverordnung (BauVorlV) vom 10.11.2007 (GVBl. S. 792, BayRS 2132-1-2-B), Anlage 1 "Zeichen und Farben für Bauvorlagen" (zu § 7 Abs. 5 und § 8 Abs. 4): V (official image of the Anlage, text status "gültig ab 01.01.2025"): https://www.gesetze-bayern.de/Content/Document/BayBauVorlV2008-ANL_1 . § 8 Abs. 1: Bauzeichnungen in scale 1:100; § 8 Abs. 4: the signs or the colours of Anlage 1 are to be used (V: https://www.gesetze-bayern.de/Content/Document/BayBauVorlV2008-8).

Nr. Gegenstand Zeichen (black-and-white sign) Farbe
1 Grenzen des Grundstücks long-dash line Violett
2 vorhandene bauliche Anlagen oder Bauteile (existing) framed single diagonal hatch (falling left to right) Grau
3 geplante bauliche Anlagen oder Bauteile (proposed) framed diagonal cross-hatch Rot
4 zu beseitigende bauliche Anlagen oder Bauteile (to be removed) plain outline with × marks on the outline Gelb
5 Flächen, auf denen Abstandsflächen nach Art. 6 Abs. 2 Satz 3 BayBO übernommen sind open diagonal hatch (rising), no frame Braun

All rows V. Colours are named by word only, no RAL/RGB values are prescribed. The same triad grau / rot / gelb is used in other Länder (R, not checked Land by Land).

Trees in Baumbestandsplan / Freiflächengestaltungsplan: no codified colour standard exists. V (bdla brochure 2022, pp. 8, 11): existing trees are recorded with number, species, height, Stammumfang, Kronendurchmesser; trees to be retained are to be "highlighted" with tree number, reference to the Baumliste and protection measures (Schutzzaun, Stamm- und Wurzelschutz); trees to be felled are to be "marked" with number, reference and a short reason (abbruchbedingt / baubedingt / zustandsbedingt); new trees and shrubs with name, size and quantity; the plan is drawn at 1:100 (1:200 / 1:500 for large sites) and "geeignete Planzeichen in Anlehnung an die Vorgaben zu den Bauzeichnungen nach der Bauvorlagenverordnung des jeweiligen Bundeslandes" are to be used. Common office practice (R): retain = green or black crown circle with stem dot; fell = red or yellow crown circle, crossed out or dashed; new = thick circle with centre cross, often red or dark green. Defensible derivation for the library: ISO 11091 line semantics + BauVorlV colour triad (see Implications).

Design consequences

  • One texture is not one coefficient: grass pavers, gravel and green roofs need variants (use intensity, build-up depth, slope). Model these as element parameters, not as separate colours.
  • BFF/UGF reward vegetation, the runoff tables reward permeability. Water-bound surfaces show the conflict (BFF 0,1 but Cs 0,9); Frankfurt even denies grass pavers and gravel turf the status "begrünt". Never derive one indicator from another.
  • Keep the edition next to every coefficient; three source documents changed or are changing (DWA-A 138-1:2024, DIN 1986-100 draft, DIN 18920:2026-06).
  • Ship the four BFF brochure scenarios as unit tests for the indicator function.

Default set for maps and plans at ≤ 1:100 = line group II: 0,5 (primary outline / cut) – 0,35 (visible and hidden edges) – 0,25 (dimension, leader and axis lines), text 3,5 mm; at ≥ 1:50 = group III: 1,0 – 0,5 – 0,35, text 5,0 mm. Texture strokes stay in the narrowest class (0,13–0,18 mm) so they never compete with outlines; hand-drawn wobble must not change the nominal width class.
  2. Status semantics (ISO 11091): existing = thin line; proposed = thick line; to be protected = thick chain-line frame; to be removed = thin dashed diagonal hatch, or × marks on the outline (ISO 7518 / BauVorlV). Existing contours thin (continuous or dashed), proposed contours thick.
  3. Status colours (BauVorlV Bayern, Anlage 1): Bestand grau, geplant rot, zu beseitigen gelb, Grundstücksgrenze violett (long dashes), übernommene Abstandsflächen braun. Provide pastel-compatible but unmistakable versions of exactly these hues, reserve them for status, and always pair the colour with the black-and-white sign (single hatch / cross-hatch / × on outline), because the regulation allows signs or colours.
  4. Tree symbols: existing = thin crown circle to scale + thick stem circle to scale (diameter at 1 m); proposed = thick crown circle + thin centre cross, not to scale; tree pit = thick square with dashed diagonals; protected = chain-line frame; felling = removal hatch or × plus yellow; every tree carries its number (Baumliste). Add the computed root-protection buffer (Kronentraufe + 1,50 m; columnar + 5,00 m) as a thin chain line.
  5. Vegetation outlines: shrub and woodland masses with irregular looped outline (thin = existing, thick = proposed); hedges as band (existing thin angular, proposed thick wavy, optionally with plant dots); grass as light random stipple; plant beds as dense regular dots; single shrubs/perennials as dots linked by thin lines to their label; climbers as dot with cross.
  6. Hard surfaces: the ISO 11091 paving patterns are "representational only", small units = close parallel lines, large units = square grid, cobbles = small irregular rounded outlines. That leaves room for hand-drawn textures as long as the three families stay distinguishable.
  7. Soil, gravel, sand motifs (DIN 4023 tradition): gravel = open circles on yellow; sand = dots on orange; silt = small paired wedges on olive/green; clay = broken horizontal dashes on violet; peat/humus = short thick dashes on brown; topsoil = "Mu" on yellowish brown; fill = "A". Surface textures for Kies, Sand, Schotter, wassergebundene Decke should reuse circles vs. dots and the yellow / orange hue families so that plans and sections read alike.
  8. Planning-law colours (PlanZV): Baulinie red, Baugrenze blue, traffic areas goldocker, green areas mid green, water mid blue, agriculture yellow-green, forest blue-green, nature-conservation measures dark green, plan boundary dark grey. Keep the landscape palette inside these families and keep pure red and blue lines free for Baulinie/Baugrenze overlays.
  9. Climate layers: use the Klimatop class names as vocabulary and the hue order water blue → open land pale mint → green → apricot → orange → light red → red → dark red / magenta for commercial and industrial areas, railways hatched; cold-air areas as blue hatches, air-flow as arrows (blue = cold air, grey = unloaded, black = loaded ventilation path). Classify PET at 23/29/35/41 °C and UTCI at 26/32/38/46 °C. Treat all climate colours as house style until VDI 3787 Blatt 12 appears.
  10. Minimum dimensions (provisional, unverified): at the smallest intended print scale no stroke thinner than 0,1 mm, no gap smaller than 0,2 mm, no texture element smaller than 0,3 mm, no pattern-filled area smaller than about 1 mm², no lettering below about 1,5 mm.
